Dance & Acro Class Offerings

All classes at Stage Door Dance Productions are based on custom, non-leveled syllabi and curricula.

Our Toddler Dance Division, Preschool Dance Division, and PreK Dance Division are progressively based on age.

Our Debut, Encore, Pre-Conservatory, Junior Premiere, Junior Ovation, Junior Conservatory, Teen, Senior Ovation, and Senior Conservatory Cohorts (Ages 5+) are based on a combination of age, experience, and skill and require placement.

Our cohorts are uniquely and inclusively designed each season to best serve our dancers and their progress.

This strategic approach is incredibly unique and helps us develop the potential of each and every dancer that is a part of our community.

  • The Toddler Dance & Tumble Division consists of Creative Movement and Tiny Tumble Classes.

This cohort is strategically designed for participants that are 2 years old and will turn 3 years old within the season.

To empower each child from an early age, all classes are independent participation.

  • The Preschool Dance & Acro Division is designed for dancers that are 3 years old and turning 4 years old within the dance season.

Students continue to learn the basic fundamentals of dance and expressive and imaginative teaching is combined with classical teaching techniques. In this division, we offer , Ballet & Tap, Acro, & Hip-Hop.

To empower each child from an early age, all classes are independent participation.

  • The PreK Dance & Acro Division is designed for dancers that are 4-years old and turning 5-years old within the dance season.

In this division, students are transitioning to a more classical classroom structure in preparation for our placement cohorts.

Our PreK classes include ballet and tap components, and students may also add Acro & Hip-Hoppin’ Peeps.

  • Ballet is a slow discipline that improves strength, awareness, and form.

Students build their technical foundation through barre exercises, center work, waltz rhythms, across-the-floor allegros, and center adagio combinations.

These classes focus on increasing strength with detailed attention to placement and alignment while allowing students to develop balance, poise, classical lines, and artistic expression.

Students that show a dedication towards ballet may also be eligible for Pre-Pointe and Pointe training.

  • Jazz dance at Stage Door Dance incorporates the technique of many great jazz legends and choreographers and represents a wonderful combination of traditional, contemporary, and unique jazz forms.

Jazz Dance Classes begin with a warm-up and move through across-the-floor progressions and into a center combination.

Styles may range from theatre dance to lyrical to high-energy jazz.

  • Tap dance focuses on the interpretation and progression of various rhythms and sounds.

Classes begin with a warm-up and move through across the floor progressions.

Other techniques, such as turns, jumps, and smooth footwork are also incorporated.

Rhythm Tap and Broadway-style tap are both taught.

  • Hip-Hop classes incorporate the fundamentals of contemporary funk through various popping, breaking, and flexing techniques.

All warm-ups include stretches emphasizing strength, flexibility, endurance, and musicality.

Music videos, films, and urban dance styles influence dance choreography.

  • The Acrobatic classes at Stage Door Dance Productions progressively teach beginning to advanced gymnastic floor exercises such as forward and backward rolls, dive rolls, handstands, front and back limbers, cartwheels, round-offs, handsprings, walkovers, and aerials.

The class begins with warm-up and stretching before working on acrobatic tricks.

These classes are great for dancers looking to become more multi-dimensional as our classes focus on controlled, power, and flexibility skills.

  • Musical Theater is a story-driven style of dancing seen on stage and in film. It may represent a variety of styles including, theater jazz, tap, hip-hop, ballet, and more.

Through bringing characters and stories to life, musical theater style dance pushes a narrative forward

  • Lyrical, Contemporary, and Modern are all additional elective classes at SDD.

Lyrical dance features ballet and jazz based choreography that is connected to the words and story of the song.

Contemporary dance features expansive movement of the body, focusing on lines, musicality, and detailed specificity.

Modern dance is a classical, exploratory style that is rooted in the techniques of Horton and Graham, focusing on shapes, patterns, and possibilities of the body.

  • Our new spirit squad offerings focus on the skills required for Dance Team, Cheer, and Pom.

These classes are great for school audition prep.

  • We are grateful to have a strong boys’ community at SDD! Boys’ Crew is the opportunity for the guys to create community together.

Note: to enroll in Boys’ Crew, you must be enrolled in a minimum of one additional class at SDD.
